Battery Energy Storage Analysis: A NYISO Case Study
New
York is a top US energy storage market and leads renewable integration with the
recent Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act. Battery energy storage
systems are the most promising technology needed to stabilize the challenges of
renewables and distributed energy resources. To meet its 1,500 MW energy storage target by 2025 and 3,000 MW target by 2030, New
York will need to make battery storage a mainstream resource. ABB’s Nodal
Advisory team performed a study on new battery energy storage capacity
installations in the New York ISO, that evaluates the impact of different levels of
storage penetration. Further, the study considers different points
of interconnection for the energy storage, such
as pairing with renewables, locating at highly congested transmission lines or
interconnecting at high demand substations. The presentation will focus on
study assumptions and findings.
